Changes to Inter-Library Loans

Changes to Inter-Library Loans

To deliver a more sustainable service to communities in WA, the State Library and Public Libraries WA will be making some changes to inter-library loans, commencing 1 July 2017 for a 6 month trial period:

  • Fiction items will be only available for inter-library lending from 12 months after purchase. This applies to fiction in all formats for both metropolitan and country libraries.
  • Customers from country libraries will be able to place a total of 24 inter-library loans per member per annum (12 for metro library customers).
  • If an external loan (from outside the WA public library system) is requested by a library customer, a fee based on recovering costs will be charged.

Any inter-library loan requests submitted prior to the commencement of the trial will not be affected.

Library staff will endeavour to supply requested items through alternative means, including purchasing requested items rather than ordering an inter-library loan. Bear in mind that resources are limited and all titles will not be able to be purchased. Please speak with library staff if you have special needs and/or requirements with regard to Inter-Library Loans.

The trial will be evaluated at the end of the 6 month period.

If you have any feedback or questions, please speak to library staff so that they can forward your feedback to the trial review.
