With the Albany Bicentenary less than five years away, the City of Albany has commenced planning to publish a commemorative book to coincide with the Bicentenary in 2026.
The City is calling for Expressions of Interest from authors, researchers and writers who are interested in contributing to the Albany Bicentenary Book Project.
Article proposals are sought on topics such as physiography, Indigenous history, pre-settlement activities, health, transport, education, music, religion, sport, architecture and military.
Executive Director Community Services Nathan Watson said the Bicentenary commemorative publication would reflect on Albany’s history and the diverse and vibrant community that has developed over the last 200 years.
“The Bicentenary will be a significant anniversary not only in Albany’s history but also in WA, so we want to mark this moment in time with something our community can cherish forever,” he said.
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said the Bicentenary book would be one of many projects and events that the City would partner with community to commemorate 2026.
“There are many pillars that make Albany what it is and that have shaped the last 200 years, and we want to capture them through the Bicentenary book project,” the Mayor said.
“That includes recognising our Menang-Noongar community as traditional custodians of our land and the influence their people and culture have had on Albany pre and post-settlement.”
Applicants are required to provide a completed application cover sheet, curriculum vitae and a 300-word submission regarding their proposed topic.
The Expressions of Interest form can be found on the City’s website at https://www.albany.wa.gov.au/documents/2142/albany-bicentenary-book-project-expressions-of-interest
Expressions of Interest should be returned to Bicentenary Coordinator Bethany Findlay at [email protected] before 5pm Tuesday November 30, 2021.
