Library welcomes Writers Retreat to Albany

Reading, writing, poetry, author talks and workshops are some of the literary activities that will be featured in the inaugural Albany Writer’s Retreat hosted by Albany Public Library this month.

From October 23 to October 27, the Library becomes home to the retreat, offering a range of events and programs to suite young and old.
With support from Fellowship of Australian Writers WA, The Writers Room Albany and Paperbark Merchants, the week will present literary lovers and budding writers a catalogue of activities.

Featuring local authors Dianne Wolfer and Sarah Drummond as well as Perth authors Pat Johnson, Andrew Levett and Scott-Patrick Mitchell, the Writers Retreat will is hosting an array of writing talent and experience.

Poetry take centre stage on the Friday evening, with local poets Maree Dawes and Barbara Temperton, and Perth poets Renee Pettitt-Schipp and Natalie D-Napoleon presenting their own readings.

Library Team Leader Soraya Majidi said the City is again delighted to be hosting the Writers Retreat at Albany Public Library.

“It is fantastic to be involved and welcome such an array of talent both locally and from Perth, with activities to suit all members of the community who will be able to listen, learn and enjoy the magnificent writing through the week,” she said.

President of the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA Pat Johnson said all the workshops, talks and readings will be open to the public.

“We have a great variety of writers, styles and approaches in the mix which means there is something for everyone across the whole week,” he said.

Workshops are $20 for Albany Writers Room members, $25 for non-members and all talks are $10.
