eSmart Libraries
eSmart Libraries is a purpose-built system designed to equip libraries with and connect library users to the skills they need for smart, safe and responsible use of technology. eSmart is a behaviour change initiative for cybersafety and wellbeing. It’s an online system that provides a road map to the tools and resources that will equip the library community with the skills and knowledge they need for the smart, safe and responsible use of technology.
Launched in August 2012 by The Alannah and Madeline Foundation's National Patron Julia Gillard, former Prime Minister of Australia, the $8 million multi-year partnership with the Telstra Foundation will deliver eSmart Libraries in collaboration with Australia's library network over six years to all of Australia's public libraries.

Why libraries?
Public libraries are the most heavily used community centres in Australia, and reach out to some of the most disadvantaged members of our society. More than half of the population are public library members, who make over 110 million visits a year to 1,500 public libraries across Australia.
Libraries are knowledge centres; the place for all community members to find information, resources, identify local services and access the internet to complete homework, everyday requirements and explore special interests.
Libraries play an increasingly important role in bridging the digital divide, improving opportunities for all Australians to access the benefits of technology irrespective of income, ability or disadvantage.
Library Public I.T. Use Policy
Albany Public Library has developed a policy which outlines user responsibilities and the acceptable use of the technology, internet and Wi-Fi provided by the Library. The purpose of this policy is to promote positive use of technology and provide a safe environment for all users. The policy can be viewed as a hard copy in the Library or online: Library Public I.T. Think U Know - A program in partnership with the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank, and is delivered in collaboration with New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police Service, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police and Victoria Police as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australia.
SCAMwatch - SCAMwatch is a website run by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). SCAMwatch provides information to consumers and small businesses about how to recognise, avoid and report scams.
