Big News in the Junior Library!

Our team has completed a Junior Fiction Genre makeover in the children’s library!
Young readers can now explore a newly genre-organised collection, making it easier and more fun to discover their next great read.
Browsing by genre has the following benefits:

  • Easier Navigation: Readers can go straight to the "Fantasy" or "Adventure" section instead of searching an entire alphabetical list
  • Matches Modern Habits: It aligns with how kids find content on streaming services and apps by genre/category
  • Reduces Overwhelm: A large collection becomes manageable when broken into smaller, themed groups, reducing choice overload
  • Encourages Exploration: Kids can confidently try new genres because they know what to expect within that section e.g., dragons in Fantasy, pets in Animal Stories
  • Supports Reluctant Readers: Visual cues like colour-coded labels and easy  browsing help students find books they'll enjoy, building confidence
  • Facilitates "Read-Alikes": Readers can easily find more books like one they loved e.g., moving from a series like Puppy Place to the broader "Animal Stories" genre
  • Promotes Peer Recommendations: It sparks conversations as kids can easily recommend books from their favourite genre to friends
Let the adventures begin...
