Reading Programs and Recommendations

The Albany Public Library welcomes you to reading challenges throughout the year.  Beanstack is a free online service for City of Albany residents that offers an innovative new way to connect readers of all ages with books, engaging reading activities and reading recommendations. 

It includes book and activity logging, badges and registration for all members of the family under one account.  You can earn digital badges by completing activities, logging books you have read, tracking reading time, attending programs, writing book reviews and more.

Hallow-Read Challenge

Spooky season is upon us! The Hallow-Read challenge is here to get you feisty and festive for the Halloween season.
 
All Hallows' Eve or Halloween is a time full of merrymaking, magic, and mischief. Get ready to monster mash, have ghoulish fun, or curl up with a chilling book. Log your reading and activities to earn badges all month long.
 

PRIDE 365 Challenge

We are proud to launch PRIDE 365 in Pride month!
Pride 365 is about celebrating everyone for who they are all year-round, especially the LGBTQ+ community. Read books and complete activities that honor everyone’s uniqueness! Log reading from this challenge's reading list and complete activities to earn badges.


1000 Books Before Kindy (0 -5yrs)

Enjoy reading with your little ones! Log reading and earn badges all along the way.

Join us for Rhymetime or Storytime to unlock extra badges.

Mindfulness Challenge (5 to Adult)

Take a deep breath in and out, notice where you are, and how you are feeling. Great job! You are on your way to becoming a more mindful person. Try this challenge and earn 10 new badges as you take some much-needed me time.

This is a year-long challenge that asks you to read a book in each of 10 categories, keep track of your reading and share your favorite discoveries with the library.
