Children's Book Week 2026 Wrap-Up

Books, creativity, costumes and plenty of imagination! Children’s Book Week® 2026 was another wonderful celebration of reading and storytelling across our local schools and library community.
From discovering this year’s shortlisted books and dressing up as much-loved book characters, to our annual competition and inspiring author sessions, there was plenty for young readers to enjoy.
Behind the Pages with Dianne Wolfer

One of the highlights of this year’s program was the opportunity for students to meet local award-winning author Dianne Wolfer in a setting rich with history, made possible through the incredible support of the Museum of the Great Southern.

Dianne’s engaging Behind the Pages sessions offered students a fascinating glimpse into the worlds of storytelling and writing. They explored where authors find ideas and inspiration, and discovered practical ways to develop their own stories from planning and researching primary sources to drawing inspiration from the world around them.
The sessions gave students a wonderful opportunity to connect with a local author, spark their imaginations and see how research, creativity and curiosity can come together to shape a compelling story. Their learning was further enriched by exploring the Museum of the Great Southern’s many outstanding exhibitions, right here in Albany.
Celebrating Our Young Creatives

A huge congratulations to all of our Children’s Book Week competition winners and to everyone who entered!
This year, our Kindy to Year 2 students were invited to showcase their artistic talents in our drawing competition, while our older students put their storytelling skills to the test.
Inspired by the Symphony of Stories theme, students were challenged to create a story that creatively combined a character and a musical instrument. We loved seeing the wonderful ideas and imaginative stories that our young writers came up with!
Thank You, Schools and Teachers!

A very special shout-out goes to the fantastic schools and teachers who continue to support our Children’s Book Week program.
Your enthusiasm and commitment to encouraging a love of books, reading and storytelling make such a difference to our young readers. Thank you for helping us make Book Week such a memorable celebration each year!

Children’s Book Week® 2026 is supported by the Government of Western Australia through the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport and the WA Branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia.
