Planning for Albany’s Bicentenary is underway with the City of Albany seeking expressions of interest from local residents to form project reference groups over the next five years.
The Albany Bicentenary Governance Model was endorsed by Council at the August OCM with the aim to achieve broad community collaboration in the development and delivery of the project.
The City of Albany will lead the project with the support of three dedicated reference groups; Menang Noongar, Community, and Commercial and Industry who will be key advocates for the project.
Members will collate the needs, ideas and aspirations of their communities to determine the scope of the Bicentenary along with an Advisory Group consisting of key project partners.
The City is seeking members of all ages through an expression of interest process for the Commercial and Industry, Community and Menang Noongar Reference Groups.
Members will be appointed based on an assessment of their ability to contribute to the project scope, represent a broad range of views and willingness to contribute positively towards the Bicentenary.
Criteria for membership includes wide community or commercial sector involvement, constructive participation, a good understanding of local issues and commitment to benefit the broader community.
Mayor of Albany Dennis Wellington said the Bicentenary presents a unique opportunity to showcase Albany and our community.
“The Bicentenary is for everyone, it will take every sector of our community to make the project a success because we all play a part in Albany’s past, present and future,” he said
“We want to incorporate stories of our local Menang Noongar people and celebrate the youth that are proudly calling Albany home and the triumphs and challenges that have made us who we are.”
Interested applicants are required to provide a completed application cover sheet and submit a two-page maximum curriculum vitae.
