As the school year ends, Albany Summer Reading Club is getting ready to return to Albany Public Library with a new challenge for the summer holidays.
The Summer Reading Challenge aims to reduce the decline in reading that is often seen among children of all ages over the school holidays.
The theme this year is Level Up and includes a reading log and the opportunity to earn digital badges by completing activities, writing book reviews, tracking reading time and attending programs.
These digital badges can win participants prize packs that include an android tablet and range of exciting vouchers to use at local retailers.
Youth Services Librarian Dora Adeline said the Library is excited to be delivering the Summer Reading Challenge once again.
“We are heading into this Summer Reading Challenge with 312 readers, 124 new registrations, 2,641 books and 111,630 minutes of reading time clocked up already,” she said.
“The best way to make sure all the hard work during the school year continues over the long break is to provide the students with an engaging and stimulating Summer Reading Club.
“We are here to help with a fantastic range of books and online resources, plus exciting programs in the Library and online through the holidays.”
Those interested in participating can register for Beanstack with the aim of reading for 30 days between 1 December and 31 January.
