Local History - Albany Boys Hostel on Vancouver St
When the then ‘new’ Albany Regional Hospital at Spencer Park was opened on 1 March 1962, the old hospital on Vancouver Street ceased operations. Following its closure, the State Government repurposed the Vancouver Street site as a boys' hostel, replacing Norman House. The building was adapted to accommodate up to 75 students and ran from 1962-1974.

This photo was taken in 1963 (we think) and may be the first intake of boys. Mr and Mrs Scott “the Boss” and “the Missus” (pictured centre) were in charge of the boys. Mrs Elizabeth Scott was the deputy matron at the hostel and Mr Wilfred Alec Scott, a building inspector.
We would love your help identifying the boys pictured. Please email [email protected] with any names or information you can share, referencing the numbers on each boy's shirt for ease of identification.
